In Bruges
IN BRUGES
Het City Film Office ondersteunde van oktober 2006 tot en met maart 2007 de productie van de langspeelfilm 'In Bruges', een coproductie van het Amerikaanse Focus Features en het Britse Blueprint Pictures. In de hoofdrollen verschijnen Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson en Ralph Fiennes. De opnames vonden hoofdzakelijk plaats in de Brugse historische binnenstad.
De auteur van het verhaal die onze stad heeft uitverkoren is niemand minder dan Martin Mc Donagh. Hij is sinds 10 jaar een gevierd en meermaals bekroond schrijver van toneelstukken. Eén van zijn bekendste stukken, 'The Lieutenant of Inishmore', werd begin 2007 opgevoerd in de Burla in Antwerpen en in het NTG in Gent. In februari 2007 was deze productie ook in de Brugse Magdalenazaal te gast.
Martin Mc Donagh won een Oscar voor de beste live action short film met 'Six Shooter' (met Brendan Gleeson).
In Bruges ging in wereldpremière op 17 januari 2008 op het Sundance Festival in Utah (USA).
De film werd vertoond in 24 Europese landen, 10 landen in Latijns-Amerika, 4 in Azië en ook Zuid-Afrika en het Midden-Oosten.
In oktober 2008 is 'In Bruges' op DVD in de Benelux uitgekomen.
In het kader van de film ontwikkelde Toerisme Brugge een plan met daarop de locaties in de historische binnenstad waar gefilmd werd.

I have produced a number of feature films in different parts of the world. I have never been so welcomed as we were in Bruges, by the city, the mayor and the film office.
Bruges was very much one of the main characters in Martin Mcdonagh’s film, alongside Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes, so it was essential to us to be able to have full access to the city for the entire shoot. From our first approach it was clear that the City Film Office was able to offer unprecedented access and co-ordinate all the needs of the production.
Liason with the city and it’s services was supported by the film office, and they also helped us approach all the locations required for the film. This access and support, coupled with the ease of movement around the relatively small city made out shooting experience as good as it can get.”
